What is hypnosis and how does it work to help me quit smoking?

Good question. It’s a natural state where your mind and body are completely relaxed. While the mind is in this state it is concentrated and focused and we are able to use it more powerfully, unlocking more of our innate potential. 

There are two levels in the mind – the conscious and the unconscious. We use our conscious mind to make decisions, think, and act. The unconscious mind controls our habits. In the relaxed state known as hypnosis, we can communicate directly with the unconscious mind to change the way it views the behavior of smoking.

Why doesn’t everybody use hypnosis, if it’s so easy?

I would guess that the myths surrounding hypnosis, and the way in which the media and stage hypnotists have used hypnosis to suggest to people that we will do strange things when we are under the “power” of hypnosis keeps many people from considering it seriously. However, clinical studies show that hypnosis is actually more effective than the nicotine replacement products on the market today.

We are constantly being bombarded with advertising by the pharmaceutical and tobacco industries which tell us quitting smoking is hard. It is in their interests to have us believe that. In fact, their advertising uses elements of hypnosis – in language and repetition patterns that help put us in the trance that quitting is going to be difficult. We reinforce these ideas with our own self-talk. How many times have you heard yourself say, “Quitting smoking is going to be hard.” Right there you are programming yourself to have a hard time quitting!

More and more people are turning to hypnosis to kick the smoking habit because they find hypnosis is an easy and effortless way to become permanent non-smokers.

How long does it take?

For some people, it can be done in an hour. For others it takes a little longer, two or three sessions. Everyone is different. It’s like learning to ride a bike. Some need training wheels, others can learn without. The important thing is to learn to ride, just as the most important thing in becoming permanently smoke-free is to change your inner mind.

Will I put on weight if I quit smoking?

This is a common question. It is quite normal to gain a pound or two when you quit smoking. Smoking dehydrates the body ( as well as robs it of precious minerals and vitamins). When you are a permanent non-smoker your body will re-hydrate, adding a slight amount of water weight.

Larger amounts of weight gain can be a problem if we substitute snacking for smoking.  If this happens, it is usually an indication that we have an unresolved subconscious need for smoking. However, with our method of smoking cessation we get to the root causes, releasing your emotional attachment to smoking.  With your fee you can have up to four sessions to release your need to smoke; success is judged by the resolution of all subconscious needs around smoking, and usually, most clients find they have resolved these needs in one, at the most two sessions.

How do I know I can be hypnotized? How does it feel?

Most people actually go into and out of a mild hypnotic state frequently throughout the day. Have you ever been so lost in thought you forgot where you were driving?
You suddenly “come to” and you’re at your destination with no memory of driving there?
Have you ever been lost in a daydream and time seemed to fly by? This is hypnosis!

During the trance, some people feel relaxed and lethargic; others feel lightness as their experience.
